Metabolomics

Metabolomics is the scientific study of chemical processes involving metabolites. It allows phenotypic fingerprinting of plants and plant products and can be used to determine composition of plant products and to determine chemicals that are released by growing plants, for example in response to stress or insect infestation. The techniques are also useful for determining food composition and detecting contaminants.

Dr. Robert Winkler- Dr. Winkler has developed methods and equipment for improved high-throughput metabolomic profiling of plants. He has developed a data mining method and improved analysis techniques. Particular plant research includes metabolomics on coffee and tomatoes. (Link to information sheet)

Dr. Axel Tiessen Favier- Dr. Tiessen is working with an analytical platform for measuring and determining the vitamins and antioxidants in maize. (Link to information sheet)
