Lab Infrastructure

In the labaoratry we count with specialized equipment for the advanced analysis of biomolecules. Our focus is the development and the application of analytical platforms to study biologcal systems.

 

UPLC-MS/MS, Thermo

 

Liquid chromatography of ultra-high pressure, coupled to an ion trap mass spectrometer. The mass analyzer can be used to fragment molecules (MSn) to study their chemical structure.This device is used for metabolomics and for characterizing complex mixtures.

Quadrupole MS, micromass

 

Mass spectrometer for chemical profiling and metabolic phenotyping by direct injection methods.

UPC2 (supercritical CO2 chromatography), Waters

 

The UPC2 uses instead of an organic solvent/ aqueous solution supercritical carbon dioxide. The chromatograph is equipped with a diode array detector (DAD) and can be coupled to a mass spectrometer. The UPC2 is used for the analysis of organic extracts (e.g. in plant metabolomics).

Robot for Sampling/ Imaging, MakerMex

 

The robot allows the automated movement of samples in x, y and z direction for high-throughput analyses and imaging. The device can be coupled to different ion sources and analysers. Our robot was developped in colaboration with MakerMex, León, México.

Miniature Quadrupole MS, Microsaic

 

The MiD3500 analizer is one of the first miniature mass spectrometers on the market. The device is considerably smaller than conventional mass spectrometers and the energy consumption is drastically reduced (-90%). Very few sample is required, because of the "nano-flow" interface.

Residual Gas Analyzer (RGA), LabABI

 

This system was assembled in our laboratory from commercial and custom-made components. The RGA allows the real-time detection of volatile organic compounds (VOCs).

Low-Temperature Plasma (LTP) Ion Source, LabABI

 

The LTP-probe is a own development of our lab (see Publications and Patents). Recently, we presented a version, which can be produced with 3D printed parts. The 3D-LTP allows us the direct detection of molecules from alive organisms and the generation of molecular images.

3D printer, MakerMex

 

We use the 3D printer for rapid protoyping. Object drawn in computer aided design (CAD) software can be printed with different polymers, such as acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS), poly lactic acid (PLA), polycarbonate (PC).
